Brett Mentor, OE Ambassador, headed up to Steep Creek for some ski touring along side a couple of friends.
They put together a short edit on the enjoyable turns and fun times they shared.
The 2016/17 winter season has had an incredible start with huge dumps of snow and perfect skiing/riding conditions. Steep Creek hut is one of many that exist in the mountains that straddle the west coast of Canada. Due to the closeness of the ocean, these mountains get significant amounts of snow and, if you're lucky, copious amounts of that fluffy powder that we all seek.
Large amounts of snow come hand-in-hand with elevated avalanche dangers. It's always important to check the avalanche forecasts before heading into the backcountry, and to have the skills and tools required to travel safely in avalanche terrain. Any one heading into the backcountry in winter should have some form of avalanche training and the minimum avalanche equipment (probe, beacon, shovel).
Lets hope that the season continues to be a good one and that we can all enjoy the mountains safely! Have fun out there!
