Push your limits and reach new highs on our wildest trek yet!

Awaken your inner explorer in one of BC's most stunning landscapes. This area is remote and wild, situated right on the border between the Coast Range and the Interior Range, meaning the landscape is very varied from glacial and snow capped peaks, to rocky volcanic ridges. The route passes a number of crystal clear alpine lakes with sandy beaches which are ideal for swimming.

The Middle Earth Trek gets its name from the mountains along the route. This range is known as the Tolkien group, and includes a series of mountains named after Lord of the Rings characters. This part of British Columbia is perfect for multi-day backpacking trips with the majority of the time spent above the treeline, in a rugged, alpine landscape.

This circuit is ideal for those who have some backpacking experience and want to explore a new area or try some scrambling in the British Columbia mountains. The route is demanding and requires a good level of fitness. We will be carrying heavy packs over steep terrain with a lot of time spent off-trail.

What our customers say about Outdoor Explore guided adventures

This was my fourth trip with Outdoor-Explore - the previous ones being canoeing and hiking in Canada and trekking in Nepal. They have all been well organised and enjoyable. The Middle Earth Trek is in the mountains north of Pemberton in an area where several of the peaks are named after characters in "The Lord of the Rings". Our route took five days and in that time we climbed mountains, hiked through forests, crossed boulder fields and snow slopes and wandered through Alpine meadows awash with flowers and dotted with lakes. From the summits there is an almost endless vista of dark mountains, green valleys and lingering snow. Given that everything has to be carried - tent, clothes, food, etc. - this should be considered as a tough trek but there was no rush and there was plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings. Even though there were limits on what we could carry, the food was well balanced and the quantities were just right. I already have my eyes set on another couple of treks with OE.
