Learn backcountry skills from our expert trekking guides and explore the wilder and less traveled corners of BC's Coastal Mountains.
You live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, surrounded by stunning mountain and ocean scenery. You've seen countless photos on social media of alpine sunsets, summit selfies, and 'gazing off into the distance' shots. Don't you want to be able to take photos like those to WOW your friends? There’s a lot more to it than just having a nice camera and a good pair of running shoes. This program is designed give you the skills and confidence to achieve all your mountainous ambitions.
The weekend warrior program is aimed at providing you with all the skills you need to safely plan your own backcountry adventures here in BC. We focus on wilderness skills, trip planning, mountain navigation, safety, campcraft, first aid, evacuation and more.
BC's mountains are rugged, wild and challenging. The number of search and rescue calls are increasing each year and many of these incidents can be prevented with proper planning, better equipment or a deeper understanding of the area. Our hope with this program is to reduce search and rescue calls by giving you the tools you need to be self-sufficient in the mountains.
We are running 3 Weekend Warrior programs in 2019. Each consists of one evening session, two Sat-Sun weekends, and one 3 day weekend. See dates below.
Please note: prices shown below are for public trips, meaning other guests may be on the same trip. This trip will only run once 3 or more guests are booked for the selected date.

Exact times and meeting locations will be communicated closer to the trip
On the Thursday or Friday night before the first weekend, we will meet at a North Vancouver location TBD for an intro session on wilderness backpacking. We will cover what gear to bring, how to pack, how to stay safe, what food is best for long days of hiking, etc. The first weekend will be aimed at practicing certain wilderness skills in a beautiful alpine setting.
We will take the skills learned in the first weekend and head deeper into the wilderness. The idea of this weekend is to get you comfortable with travelling through rugged alpine terrain, and perfecting certain skills such as navigation and campcraft.
The final weekend will be a 3 day trek into a remote area of the Sea-to-Sky mountains where you will take it in turns to be the leader. We will use all the skills learned in the previous 2 weekends to get far into the backcountry. This will be a strenuous weekend of hiking and scrambling. The hope is that after this weekend, you will feel comfortable and confident to safely plan your own wilderness backpacking trips.
You will be carrying a pack with your camping equipment, clothing, food, etc. For this reason, you must be comfortable with carrying a moderately heavy load for multiple days. This is mountainous terrain so expect to climb a lot of elevation, and move across loose or rocky ground.
Snow is common well into the summer in the BC mountains. There is a good chance we will be walking on patches of snow well into August. Please bring waterproof hiking boots with good grip to deal with any terrain and conditions.
You are responsible for bringing all your own gear and food for the trip. All equipment must be in a good, working condition. It should not be the first time you have put up your tent, or worn this pair of hiking boots. Please let us know in advance if you need to rent any equipment from us.
