Imagine waking up to catch the sun rise over an ancient volcanic peak, draped in glacial ice and surrounded by lush green valleys and forests. Sipping your coffee in the warm morning sun with panoramic views of snow capped mountains. Well, stop imagining, because you could do that!

Garibaldi Provincial Park is the gem of the Sea to Sky corridor, offering endless back-country hiking opportunities and some of the best mountain views in the world.

Stretching from Squamish to Whistler, and beyond, Garibaldi Park offers an abundance of terrain to be explored. 

If you're looking to take your hiking and camping to the next level, and experience back-country trekking in Canada's Coast Mountains, then this is the perfect trip for you. Our Elfin Lakes Back-country Trek is a great challenge for those looking to step up into longer mountain adventures.

Hike the famous Elfin Lakes trail and camp on the shores of Elfin Lakes, then continue deeper into the park to camp on the moraines or an ancient glacier.

Trip details


Day 1 (10km, +700m):

  • Meet your guide in Squamish (location TBD), discuss gear, plans, safety, sign waivers, etc. 
  • Shuttle up to the Elfin Lakes trail head
  • Begin hike into the alpine and along Paul Ridge
  • Lunch with a view!
  • Continue hike to Elfin Lakes and set up camp
  • Enjoy the beautiful sunset

Day 2 (13km, +700m):

  • Wake up early to catch the sun rise, or relax in your tent
  • Breakfast by the lakes
  • Pack up camp and hike further into the back-country
  • Set up camp near the toe of a glacier
  • Afternoon hike without the packs to Mamquam Lake
  • Return to camp for dinner

Day 3 (13km, +700m):

  • Breakfast and pack up camp
  • Hike to the base of Opal Cone, an old volcanic dome
  • Drop the packs and hike to the top of Opal Cone for views of the Neve Glacier
  • Grab the bags and hike back to Elfin Lakes for our last night
  • Set up camp, go for a swim, soak in the views

Day 4 (10km, +200m):

  • Say goodbye to our camp site for the last time
  • Pack up camp and begin our hike back along Paul Ridge to the vehicles
  • Shuttle back down to Squamish, debrief
  • Optional celebratory drink with your new adventure buddies at a nearby bar (not included).

Itinerary Disclaimer
Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary, but as this is adventure travel in a remote mountain region, we cannot guarantee that we will stick to this plan. Weather conditions and the health of participants can all contribute to changes. The trip leader/guide will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but an easy going nature will be an asset!


Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks are included while on the trip.

Breakfasts consist of oatmeal or granola with mixed toppings and dried fruit, tea and coffee. Great for fueling a full day of adventures.

Lunch varies from day to day, but often consists of wraps or sandwiches with different fillings e.g. cheese, dried meat, falafel, hummus, veg, etc.

Dinners are provided by our partner Nomad Nutrition. These super tasty meals are light weight, full of wholesome ingredients, and packed with energy. Exactly what you need after an exciting day in the mountains.

We can cater to any dietary requirements. Please let us know if you have any food allergies or dietary requirements BEFORE your trip.


Tented accommodation (3 nights) is included in the trip price. We use MSR Elixir tents, which are spacious, warm and comfortable. 1, 2, or 3 person options are available.

Please bring your own sleeping bag and sleeping pad (e.g. Thermarest). If you do not have either of these, please select the rental option when booking your trip or contact us to arrange a rental.

Early season (May/June)

Snow sticks around in the mountains well into the summer months. For earlier season trips, expect to be hiking on snow for the majority of the route. Suitable waterproof footwear with good tread is required! We recommend bringing gaiters if you have them.

Carrying a pack

This trip requires you to carry a large multi-day backpack with you personal equipment (sleeping bag, clothes, rain gear, etc.) and some shared camping equipment (tent, food, cooking gear, etc.). Previous experience carrying a multi-day backpack is recommended.
