Test your metal on one of BC's most challenging but rewarding hikes. If you're looking to challenge yourself to reach stunning views, and you don't mind a bit of sweat, then this is the trip for you. With 800m vertical gain right out of the parking lot, this Squamish test piece is not for the faint hearted. The hike involves steep stairs, ladders, chains, and scrambling up some non-technical rock - needless to say, a good level of fitness is required! Don't let the challenge put you off though. This hike is hugely rewarding, enjoyable, and very different from a lot of other trails in BC. This one of the only hikes we offer that includes stunning ocean views.

The Stawamus Chief is one of the most iconic landmarks in the Sea to Sky corridor. Towering vertical walls rise up straight out of the Pacific ocean, creating a commanding presence over the nearby town of Squamish. The Chief holds significant cultural importance to the local aboriginal people, as do the surrounding peaks and valleys visible from the summit. This is a spiritual place filled with tradition and rich history.

The Chief is also renowned for it's world class rock climbing. Each summer, climbers from around the globe flock to the Chief's vertical granite faces. Climbers can be seen high on the walls from the parking lot and lower trails. Don't worry though, our trail doesn't involve any rock climbing!

What our customers say about Outdoor Explore guided adventures

Always good fun out with the Outdoor Explore team. First time out with these guys I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep up, but they helped make me feel comfortable and safe the whole time. Solid, confident, and proficient guides. Amazing way to visit the outdoors, seeing places that would be hard to access alone....
