  • Meet like-minded adventurers
  • Explore beautiful glaciers in the Sea to Sky
  • Lear how to plan your own mountaineering trips

Learn the basics of mountaineering on one of the many distinct and beautiful glaciers in the Sea to Sky corridor of British Columbia. Whether you’re a keen hiker looking to get further into the backcountry, or a climber who wants to reach new heights, this course will teach you the relevant skills to stay safe in the mountains.

Hike into the hills with an experienced guide and learn how to travel through alpine and glaciated terrain. Spend 2 nights camping in the alpine and explore the surrounding area. Gain valuable skills in mountain travel and an appreciation for the landscape. There will be an option to climb a nearby peak to practice these new skills.

This course is ideal for those who are looking to take their adventures to the next level and explore deeper into the mountains. The skills learned will form the basis of any mountaineering objectives you may have, and can be applied anywhere in the world.

The intro to mountaineering course is designed with ample time to put the learned skills into practice. There are numerous mountain objectives in the area which require a range of skills including steep snow and ice, glaciers, scrambling on rock, rappelling, etc. We will camp close to the glacier so we can quickly and easily get into challenging terrain.

While the majority of the time is spent learning and practicing practical skills on the glacier, there are also theory lessons in geology & glaciology, route selection, navigation, leadership and emergency response.

The skills learned on the intro to mountaineering course will help you to go on to climb difficult rock and ice routes in the BC mountains, explore deep into the wilderness, or even take on expeditions in the higher ranges. Learn the ropes with Outdoor Explore this summer.

  • Glacial Travel and crevasse rescue basics

Always good fun out with the Outdoor Explore team. First time out with these guys I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep up, but they helped make me feel comfortable and safe the whole time. Solid, confident, and proficient guides. Amazing way to visit the outdoors, seeing places that would be hard to access alone....
